Shop according to what fits, not what the tag says People like Janis get to make all the rules! Being a leader in the fashion world definitely has its perks. Nowadays, uniqueness is something to be valued. to their prom, still in their Varsity Mathlete jackets in all their nerdy glory. Overall, Regina teaches us to proudly wear an outfit that breaks, falls apart, or isn’t quite working without feeling insecure.Īt her school, Janis Ian was seen as strange and as somewhat of an outsider. Imagine my delight, then, when I discovered Mean Girls, the movie. Soon after, the entire school begins to take on this hilarious new trend. Instead of turning this problem into a disaster, Regina decides to strut her ruined clothing as if nothing has happened. When the girls head over to Regina’s house after a school day, we see her mother decked out in a pink Juicy Couture tracksuit. If there’s one major style and life lesson we can take from watching Mean Girls, it’s from Regina George’s mother. Many of us, now, have jewelry, coffee mugs, and cellphone cases displaying our initials, thanks to Regina. There are many distinct staples to Regina George’s style and personality, but a major one is her monogrammed “R” necklace. Now varsity jackets and sportswear are becoming more popular and can be worn by anyone.

When we saw Cady Heron walk into her Spring Fling after the mathlete’s competition, still in her team jacket, we thought this was an accident and maybe even a fashion disaster. Mean Girls taught us that you don’t have to be a mathlete or the star player on a sports team to wear their jackets. It may have originally been Damien’s flamboyant nature that made him so obsessed with pink clothing, but now we’re hearing phrases such as “tough guys wear pink” and “real men wear pink.” We may just have to credit Mean Girls for the men in our lives embracing this feminine color. “Fetch” may not have happened yet, but there are still quite a few valuable style (and life) lessons that we can all take from this much loved film.
